Somerset NJ – The Franklin Township Youth Center will officially open its doors with a 1:00 p.m. Grand Opening Ceremony and 5:00 p.m. Youth party on Saturday 14 Mayand. Both events are free and will highlight recreational programs, resources and social services available to Franklin youth in grades six through 12. Operating under the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Franklin Township Youth Center serves the needs of young people through programs and partnerships with youth-serving organizations. The 25,000 square foot facility includes exercise facilities, audio and visual studios, open meeting space, lounges and a satellite branch of the Franklin Township Public Library.

The Grand Opening Ceremony at 1:00 p.m. is open to the public and will feature local officials and community leaders who will mark this momentous occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and special presentations. Special guest, Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman will present a $1 million grant for funding community projects from the House Appropriations Committee. The grant, requested by the township, was among $7.3 million in grant applications that Watson Coleman recently approved for New Jersey’s 12th congressional district.

The doors of the center will reopen at 5:00 p.m. where youngsters in grades six through 12 will enjoy a “Youth Festival”. This is an extraordinary occasion celebrated by residents, community leaders and township officials. Councilor Kimberly Francois said, “It is humbling to see our hopes and dreams come true with the opening of our Youth Centre. It really demonstrates that when we come together as a community, anything is possible.”

Township Manager Bob Vornlocker noted “We are thrilled to open the doors of our Youth Center to ensure lasting opportunity and success for our future leaders. With this major achievement, Franklin is well positioned to transform the lives of our young people today and beyond. »
