As the 2022 school year approaches, Noozhawk has put together our annual ParentNooz Extracurricular Activities Guide. We’ve made sure to make it easy when planning your child’s school year and have compiled a list of local organizations that offer after-school programs.

Our 2022 After-Curricular Activity Guide provides you and your child with all the information you need to decide which after-school program is right for you.

To give parents the tools to make informed decisions about after-school programs for their children in Santa Barbara, Noozhawk conducted a series of interviews with local program representatives for this year’s After-School Activities Guide.

In this interview, Noozhawk spoke with Aaron Martinez, Executive Director of Youth Center pageto learn more about their after-school programs here in Santa Barbara.

Question: What is the name of your extracurricular activity/program? What is his mission ?

Answer: Youth Center Blenders Winter Basketball League page. Our mission is to build character through youth and community sports programs.

Q: Describe the activities involved in your extracurricular activity/program.

A: The Blenders Winter Basketball League offers kids the opportunity to develop sportsmanship, teamwork, basketball skills and have fun while competing in the divisional playoffs.

Q: When does registration start?

A: Registration is $265 per player (purses available), from August 10 to October 3. Late registration is $290 per player from October 4 through November 1. After November 1, we will create a waiting list.

Q: What are the season dates?

A: Mandatory evaluations will take place for all divisions from November 4-6 (specific division schedule will be available on our website by August 10. Regular season games will be played from December 5-February 25. Playoffs will be played from February 27 to March 16 All divisions will have playoffs except kindergarten.

Q: How is Blenders involved in the league?

A: The league is sponsored by Blenders in the Grass, a local company known for its healthy and delicious smoothies for kids of all ages and a longtime supporter of youth sports in the Santa Barbara community. Together, PYC and Blenders have teamed up again to deliver the largest recreational winter basketball league in Santa Barbara for kids K-8.

Q: What are the hours of your extracurricular activity or program?

A: 1 to 2 training sessions per week for 1h30 depending on each individual trainer. One basketball game per week.

Q: What is the age range for children to participate in your after-school activity or program?

A: The program welcomes all children from kindergarten to grade 8. The boys division includes 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades. The girls division includes 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th, 5th/6th and 7th/8th grades. The nursery division will be mixed.

Q: When was your program started and what was the inspiration to create it?

A: The program began in 1984 and has grown to become one of the strongest youth programs in the city. The Page Youth Center and Youth Basketball League was established to provide a facility for youth indoor sports in Santa Barbara that would further the PYC’s mission to help build character through sports for youth. youth.
