Santa makes a surprise visit to the Terrell Co.

DAWSON, Ga. (WALB) – Children at a Terrell County youth center were able to experience Christmas a week earlier.

“I am so happy that Santa Claus came to see us. I knew it was going to happen but I just figured it out a few minutes ago, but I just wanted to see if it was real, ”said Nasir Wilson.

Santa was in the flesh on Thursday night at the second annual Santa Claus in the car event.

“Lots of things, bikes, toys, whatever the kids want, Santa Claus brought,” said Santa himself.

It was the last day of school for Terrell County schools, so Positive Direction principal Dorothy Tomlin wanted to send them off on a high note.

“Funds were donated and we did a sample of what you would like for Christmas and based on what the kids tell us we go out and buy the presents to make sure they get what they wanted,” Tomlin said.

Tomlin said it cost thousands of dollars, but stressed that what’s important is for the kids to have a wonderful holiday season.

She also said that this style of giving can benefit people’s health.

“That way we don’t have to worry about an outbreak. Bring them all to the gym or inside the building. They’re right past it and we’re outside, so we can say hello from the car, Merry Christmas, give them their presents and they could move on, ”Tomlin said.

The Dawson City Fire Department heard rumors of a visit from Santa, so firefighters came down to check on the event.

“Show love to our community and do what we’re supposed to do, which is support each other. We don’t mind going out. If they call us every year, we’re going to come and support them because they are our people, ”said Donny Johnson.

Santa’s last remarks were “it’s time to go back to the North Pole”.
