Soroptimist Club donates $12,000 to SCOE for services to foster families and homeless youth
FAIRFIELD – Soroptimist International of Central Solano County presented $12,000 to support the Foster and Homeless Youth Services Program at a recent meeting at the Solano County Office of Education.
The check was received by Superintendent of Schools Lisette Estrella-Henderson and Program Coordinator Akon Walker.
Funds are intended to help provide school supplies, as well as meet other urgent needs of foster and homeless youth, according to a news release.
The check was presented by club member Jill Hopkins, who said the money was raised at Soroptimists’ “Roaring 20s” fundraiser in February. Hopkins said the Foster and Homeless Youth Services Program has been identified by the club as its “Fund a Need” recipient for the event, and attendees have been generous in their support.
Club President Becky Lessler praised the program’s focus on foster students and the homeless, and the efforts of Walker and her team to meet their needs.
Soroptimist International of Central Solano County is part of a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.
