For the US military, high-quality child care is not just about the family; it is a matter of national security, said the colonel. Joshua Ségraves, Garrison Commander at Fort Belvoir, in a recent interview with PBS News Time. The segment focused on how high-quality government-funded child care services that support military families could be tailored for civilians.

“When you think of readiness, child care provides a key facet of that readiness and how we care for our soldiers, but also of maintaining our readiness for deployment around the world at all times,” Segraves said. “Without it, we would be significantly degraded in our ability to accomplish these missions.”
