Youth Center will pay tribute to coach Tift | News
TIFTON — Although Tift County Schools coach Anthony Bateman passed away nearly three years ago, the memory of his efforts and service has been carried on through the lives he touched.
Now, the Tifton Youth Center will be another mark of his legacy.
Tifton City Council named the new Tifton Youth Center after the late coach at its February 21 meeting because of his strong support for students in Tift County Schools and the Tift County community. .
Bateman served in a variety of positions at Tift County schools for more than 20 years, serving as an administrative assistant and assistant coach for the school’s track and field, basketball, and football teams, and primarily provided everything he could to help the students.
Mayor Julie Smith spoke briefly about Bateman at the meeting, noting his desire to improve the lives of everyone he meets and calling him “one of the county school system’s most influential educators and mentors.” Tiff”.
“It’s an honor that we will cherish as a family for the rest of our lives,” said Freda Bateman, Anthony’s wife, who attended the reunion with her family. “I am so proud to know that he had such a powerful impact in the lives of our young people.”
The motion to rename the center passed unanimously. Construction and development of the Anthony G. Bateman Youth Center is underway.
