Youth Minister declares large-scale approach to overhaul of sport

KUWAIT: Kuwaiti Minister of Information, Minister of State for Youth and President of the Public Authority for Sport (PAS), Abdul Rahman Al Mutairi, yesterday affirmed that concrete and full steps will be taken to support the sport and reform the sector. In a statement to KUNA, Minister Al-Mutairi said that the PAS Board has adopted the general framework of sport professionalism for Kuwaiti athletes, noting that their full-time dedication to the sport will inspire them to improve their performance.

The board of directors also decided to support the Kuwaiti players who would participate in the Olympic Games, scheduled for Tokyo this summer, in accordance with the instructions of His Highness Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. In detail, Minister Al-Mutairi said the government will cooperate with the National Assembly to enact the required legislation and amend the relevant existing laws as part of the sport support approach, indicating that the government will not intervene. not in the business of the sector.

Such support will also be given to coaches, technical and administrative staff, he said. The PAS has already started to organize meetings with the athletes to survey them on the new plans, he said, adding that the experience of brotherly and friendly countries for the rehabilitation of the sports sector would also be examined. The overhaul of sport is a collective responsibility that must be assumed by schools, clubs and the Olympic Committee with the support of the PAS, said the minister. – KUNA
