Minimum professional qualifications
• College diploma required
• Quality of experience related to specified roles and responsibilities
Purpose of the position
The Minister of Youth:
• Develop, lead and coordinate a comprehensive ministry to/with/for the middle and high school youth of the church
• Provide leadership, support and supervision of ministry-related volunteers
• Communicate the vision of youth ministry to youth, parents and the wider church community
Main responsibilities
- Oversee the youth ministry program in the areas of worship, formation, spiritual development, evangelism, fellowship, youth outreach and affirmation and support for their families
- Develop a variety of creative programs designed to reach youth at their level of spiritual growth and social development in partnership with the Family Ministry Committee.
- Animation of a group of young people in partnership with volunteers
- Facilitate Sunday morning classes and mid-week Bible studies designed to cater for all levels of youth
- Invite, train and equip youth and adults to lead the program
- Coordinate youth activities and communicate program plans to parents and youth through various modes of communication
- Train, advise and encourage members of youth groups, their families and volunteers to play an active role in the life of the parish
- Select and revise teaching materials and teaching tools to ensure a comprehensive spiritual education program for youth in the church in partnership with the Director of Christian Formation
- Provide ongoing recognition programs for volunteers and help create an environment that will enable parents and other parish members to enthusiastically help implement youth ministry
- Coordinate youth participation in all activities such as camps, conferences, retreats and mission trips and ensure that volunteers are available to accompany youth on these trips
- Provide ongoing program evaluation
- Perform other duties assigned by the director of Christian formation and the rector.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and SM platforms
• Must be comfortable with staff and/or parishioner relations
• Must be comfortable working with a volunteer base
• Must maintain confidentiality regarding Church matters
• Participates in faith-based and professional activities
Additional requirements
• Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check (every 60 months or 5 years)
• Must pass Safe Church training (Episcopal Church term, every 3 years)
• Adherence to church employee handbook
